    Joely Spencer Ph.D., LMFT, ADHD-CCSP

I have helped clients deal with and work through stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, infidelity, LGBT related issues, neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD (within individuals, relationships, and children). Most commonly, I work a lot with maladaptive communication patterns and power struggles, Neurodiversity in couples struggles, parent-child struggles, blended family struggles, and LGBT related family struggles.

I am able to see the influence of multigenerational family patterns and their effects on people. I will tailor our sessions together to address challenges unique to you, and what you bring to the table. We will work together to understand what is causing the struggles you are facing, and address them with long-lasting strategies with the intention of helping you achieve goals and live the life you would like to have.

I’m so glad you have taken the courageous step of being here.

    My Mission

More than many, I recognize that no matter what, no two individuals are the same. No struggles between people are exactly the same, either. In all relationships, it really does take two to tango.

Maladaptive communication patterns are one of the most common patterns seen within relationship. Therapists know this problem arises when people can’t readily come to a solution for struggles presented. It is my job to listen to your story, identify the maladaptive patterns, and work with you to resolve the ineffective solutions and communication problems.

    Inspirational Quotes

“Perfectionism is a self destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimise the painful feelings of shame, judgment, and blame.”

    Brene Brown

“Somehow we’ve come to equate success with not needing anyone. Many of us are willing to extend a helping hand, but we’re very reluctant to reach out for help when we need it ourselves. It’s as if we’ve divided the world into “those who offer help” and “those who need help.” The truth is that we are both.”

    Brene Brown

“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome.”

    Brene Brown
